The Spartanburg District Five Board of Trustees has approved the district's 2026-27 budget, continuing the district's commitment to investing in employees while maintaining fiscal responsibility. The $168,909,559 budget was unanimously approved Monday evening, marking a 7% increase from the previous year.
The new budget reflects significant investments in employee salaries, while continuing to support the district's commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities for students.
Major highlights include:
Investing in Employees: All eligible teachers will receive a $2,000 raise, in addition to their scheduled step increase. Teachers in the early years of their career (steps 1-9) will receive an enhanced salary increase, intended to improve the district’s competitiveness statewide, and assist in recruiting and retaining teachers. All other eligible employees will receive a 3% raise, in addition to their step increase, if they are eligible to receive one. These investments reflect the district's ongoing commitment to attracting and retaining outstanding educators and staff members.
Supporting Student Success: The budget continues to provide the resources necessary to meet the needs of students, while supporting high-quality programs, services, and opportunities for all District Five schools.
Maintaining Fiscal Responsibility: Despite increased investments in employee salaries and district operations, the budget does not include an operating millage increase, marking the 20th consecutive year District Five has passed a general budget without raising taxes.
Superintendent Dr. Randall Gary praised the Board of Trustees for its continued support of students, employees, and the District community.
"District Five is an exceptional place because of the people who are making a difference in the lives of students every day,” said Dr. Gary. "An investment in our employees is an investment in the future for both our students, and the families we serve. I’m grateful to our Board of Trustees for their leadership and support, and for recognizing the importance of rewarding our hard working teachers and staff.”
