Spartanburg District Five Schools is announcing three leadership appointments that will support students and staff across the district in the coming school year. Each brings valuable experience and a strong commitment to serving the District Five community.
Trey Bailey: Assistant Principal, Duncan Elementary School of the Arts
Trey Bailey has been selected to serve as the next Assistant Principal of Duncan Elementary School of the Arts. Bailey will join Duncan, after having served as a Physical Education teacher, head Football Coach, and Athletic Director at Beech Springs Middle School since 2024. Prior to that, he was a PE teacher at Duncan, making this new role a "homecoming" in the best possible way.
“I feel like there are times in life when different people and opportunities are placed in your path for a reason,” says Bailey. “This new chapter is one of those times. I’m so grateful and thankful to everyone that has helped encourage me along this path to this new position.”
Bailey grew up in District Five, and is a proud Byrnes High School graduate. He started his career here in 2010, first serving as a special education assistant, and then later served as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher at Lyman Elementary School. He earned his Bachelors in Communication from Wake Forest University, and a Masters in Elementary Education from Converse College. He is currently earning his post-Masters certification in Administration and Leadership from North Greenville University.
Bailey says, “I’m so excited to work alongside the strong staff at Duncan, striving to continue building the positive culture that the school has already established. I can’t wait to get to work!”
Bailey will officially assume his new role in July. Congratulations to Trey Bailey!
Kyle Baron: Assistant Principal, Byrnes Freshman Academy
Spartanburg District Five Schools is proud to announce that Kyle Baron has been selected as the new Assistant Principal of Byrnes Freshman Academy.
Baron is no stranger to BFA, as he currently serves as a Social Studies teacher, Department Head, and Athletic Director at the school. He first joined the Freshman Academy family in 2013. Prior to that, Baron started his education career as a Social Studies teacher at Northwest Whitfield High School in Georgia.
“Moving forward as a member of the Byrnes Freshman Academy administrative team, I’m excited about being a better position to help the school continue to grow and achieve even more,” says Baron.
Baron earned his Bachelors in History from North Greenville University, and a Masters in Teaching from Converse College. He has his Masters in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education.
Baron says, "Having made BFA a home over the last thirteen years, I am looking forward to serving others in the school in a much broader capacity."
Baron will officially begin his new role in July. He will take over for current Assistant Principal Curtis Plumley, who will retire this summer. Congratulations to Kyle Baron!
Victoria Garrett: Coordinator of Special Services
Spartanburg District Five Schools is proud to announce that Dr. Victoria Garrett has been selected as our new Coordinator of Special Services, joining a dynamic, experienced team serving the district's special education students.
Dr. Garrett joined District Five in 2025, and for the last year, has served as a special education teacher at Beech Springs Middle School. Prior to that, she taught special education at the Whitlock Flexible Learning Center, serving students from across Spartanburg County.
"This is my dream job," says Dr. Garrett. "I'm excited to serve in this role, and collaborate with educators, families, and school leaders to strengthen special education practices throughout the district.”
Dr. Garrett started her career in the classroom as a teachers assistant at the McCarthy Teszler School in 2017. She earned her Bachelors in Psychology, a Masters in Teaching, and her Doctorate of Professional Leadership, all from Converse College. She also has a Masters of Educational Administration and Leadership from Columbia College.
“I’m looking forward to focusing on building clear and supportive systems that ensure every student receives meaningful access and instruction, and the opportunity to thrive.”
Dr. Garrett will finish this school year, and then officially begin her new district-level role in July. Congratulations to Dr. Victoria Garrett!
