The Spartanburg District Five Board of Trustees is continuing its commitment to students and employees with the approval of its 2025-26 budget, totaling $157,792,098. The annual budget, which represents an $11,616,557 (or 7.95%) increase over the previous year, was unanimously approved by the District Five Board of Trustees Monday night.

The new budget reflects several significant financial investments to support student growth, enhance safety, and reinforce the district’s ongoing commitment to staff compensation. Major highlights include:

  • Investing in People: All eligible teachers will receive a $1500 raise, in addition to their scheduled step increase. All other eligible staff members will receive their step increase, plus a 2% raise.

  • Supporting Growth: The District will add 66 new certified and non-certified positions to meet enrollment growth and instructional needs. A significant contribution will also support the expansion of R.D. Anderson Applied Technology Center, in partnership with Spartanburg Districts Four and Six.

  • Enhancing Safety: The budget includes districtwide upgrades to safety infrastructure, including metal detectors, bag scanners, and other enhanced security measures in District Five schools.

Superintendent Dr. Randall Gary praised the passage of the budget, thanking the Board of Trustees for their support and commitment to students. “This budget speaks right to the heart of our mission — looking out for every child, every day,” says Dr. Gary. “In District Five, we will always be committed to supporting our staff, investing in safety, and planning for the future.”

This marks the 16th consecutive year the district has passed a general operations budget without a millage increase.
