As our community continues to recover from Hurricane Helene, District Five is announcing a plan to reopen our schools. 🏫 As of today, all of our schools have power, and our team has been working hard to ensure our buildings are safe for students and staff to return.
Monday, October 7 will be a workday for all District Five teachers and staff, to allow time for planning and preparation. This will also allow additional time for power to be restored to homes, and for city and county crews to clear remaining storm debris from our roads. 🚧 All District Five students will return to school on Tuesday, October 8, on a two hour delay. This delay will allow extra time in the morning for buses, student drivers and families to safely travel to school. ⏰
Our transportation team continues to monitor our bus routes to ensure they are safe for student travel. 🚌
We can't wait to welcome our students back to school, and help our community return to normal. We are thankful for your support during this difficult time! ❤️ #WeAreD5

We know the recovery still continues around our District Five community, and once again, we want to help. ❤️
Thanks to the generosity of Pizza Inn of Duncan and other community partners, District Five, in partnership with Middle Tyger Community Center and Chartwells, will once again be providing FREE MEALS on to all students, staff, families and community members who need them. 🍎🌭🍽
🗓 Friday, October 4
📍 Byrnes High School
⏰ 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
As we have done before, the meals will be packed “to go”, and can be picked up in the outside patio area next to the school cafeteria. Just park in the senior parking lot just down from the main school entrance on East Main Street, and come pick up your meals. We will serve until 1:00 p.m. or until the meals run out. We’re thankful for this opportunity to serve our #D5Community!

Another day of serving our #D5Community🫶 Administrators, teachers, board members, & staff pulling together to feed families and make a difference 🍎🍔 This is what makes our #D5Family special ❤️ #WeAreD5

"Look for the helpers." ❤️ We were so proud to partner with Chartwells to help in this time of need 🫶 Along with dozens of volunteers, we were able to feed our students, staff, families, & community Monday 🍎🍔🥗
3 hours ⏰ 3000 meals ✅ Countless smiles 🥰 We love our #D5Community ❤️ #WeAreD5

All District Five schools will remain closed for the remainder of this week, through Friday, October 4. 🏫 All after school activities and programs are also canceled until further notice.
A majority of our schools and homes in our district remain without power. 💡 Many roads are still impassable due to downed trees and power lines, preventing safe travel for our school buses. 🚌
Due to the widespread power and internet outages that continue, there will be no e-Learning expectations this week. 💻
We know our students are safe havens for our students. We cannot wait to reopen our doors, welcome our students back, and give them a sense of normalcy again. ❤️ Please stay safe!

We are overwhelmed by the response, and the generosity of our community ❤️ Today, we served nearly 3,000 meals, and tomorrow we’ll do it again! 🍎
Along with our partners from Chartwells, District Five will be serving free meals on Tuesday, October 1, at Byrnes High School to all students, staff, families, and community members who need them 🍽 🥪🥦 Hours will be 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. All meals will again be packed “to go”, and can be picked up in the outside patio area next to the school cafeteria ✅ Just park in the senior parking log off East Main Street, and come pick up your meals.
We will serve until 1:00 p.m. or until the meals run out. Once again, our hearts are with all of you, and we’re grateful for this chance to serve our D5 community. ❤️ #WeAreD5

District Five Family:
We know there are so many in our school and district community who are without right now, and we want to help! ❤️
Tomorrow, Monday, September 30, we’ll be offering FREE MEALS at Byrnes High School from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m, to any students, staff, families, or community members who need them 🍽 All meals will be packed “to go”, and can be picked up in the outdoor patio area beside the school cafeteria 🏫 Simply park in the senior parking lot off North Main Street and come pick up your meals 🍎 🥦 🥪 We’ll serve until 2:00 p.m., or until the meals run out.
We’re ONE District Five family, and we’re in this together. Please know our hearts are with you! ❤️

Due to the impact of Tropical Storm Helene, all District Five schools and buildings will be closed on Monday, September 30 and Tuesday, October 1. 🏫 As there are widespread power and internet outages, there will be NO E-LEARNING EXPECTATIONS on these days. Our number one priority is the safety of our students, staff, and their families. ❤️ You are in our thoughts, along with our entire community. Please stay safe! #WeAreD5

Administrators from all across District Five showed their support for our Kinship Caregivers by wearing yellow Middle Tyger Community Center shirts in honor of Kinship Care Awareness Month 💛 Currently, over 50,000 SC children reside with kinship caregivers 🫶 D5 is proud to support MTCC as they launch our state's very first evidence-based kinship care navigation program.🏠 If you are a kinship caregiver, past or present, we thank you for your dedication to the wellbeing of children needing a loving home. ❤️

Due to the potential impact from Hurricane Helene, Friday, September 27 will be an e-Learning day for all District Five students and staff. 💻 School will continue as normal on Thursday, September 26. All after school programs and activities have been canceled for Thursday and Friday. ✅
Teachers will communicate with students regarding assignments. 📝
Should conditions change and impact school for Thursday, we will communicate with our parents, families and staff as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience as safety is always our top priority! 💯 #WeAreD5
