A special honor for District Five’s Teacher of the Year came with an incredible surprise Friday night, thanks to the generosity of one of the district’s valued community business partners.
Thompson Turner Construction presented a $4,500 check to District Five’s 2026-27 Teacher of the Year, Lea Elizabeth Harrison, of Byrnes High School. Harrison was surprised with the gift during a special recognition ceremony at Nixon Field honoring District Five’s school-level Teachers and Support Employees of the Year.
The generous gift is a reflection of Thompson Turner Construction’s continued support of District Five Schools and its commitment to celebrating the educators who make a difference for students each day.
Harrison, an AP and honors English teacher at Byrnes, was named District Five Teacher of the Year earlier this year, following a districtwide selection process. As District Teacher of the Year, she represents the outstanding educators serving students across District Five.
