Spartanburg District Five Schools is proud to announce a familiar, and very trusted, face will soon lead its Maintenance Department, as Travis Lister has officially been selected as Director of Maintenance.
Lister is a well-known face in the department, having served as Head of Grounds since 2006. A proud Byrnes High School graduate, he’s spent his entire 31 year career in District Five. “This district is family to me,” he says. “I grew up here, my wife grew up here, and our kids have grown up here. I want to build that same family model in the maintenance department.”
Lister first joined District Five’s grounds crew, after receiving his Associate’s degree in Horticulture from Spartanburg Community College. His work ethic has earned him the honor of “Support Employee of the Year” twice in his tenure. As the Head of Grounds, Lister has led a team of employees, ensuring all of District Five’s school campuses and buildings are well maintained and welcoming for students, staff, parents and the community. He’s managed that role throughout the district’s tremendous growth, anticipating current and future needs. “When I started, we had seven schools, and now we have fourteen,” says Lister. “Pretty soon, we’ll have sixteen schools, so we’re going to have to continue to grow as the district grows.”
Chief of Operations Ryan Cloonan says Lister’s vision and commitment to District Five make him the perfect choice for the job. “Travis truly understands District Five because this is his home, and he has earned the respect of his colleagues and our school leaders,” Cloonan says. “The way he leads by example and the genuine care he shows for our students, staff, and providing them with the highest quality learning environments possible is evident in all that he does.”
Lister will officially step into the Director’s role later this week. Congratulations to Travis Lister!
