Spartanburg District Five Schools is proud to announce that twelve schools across the district have been recognized as America’s Healthiest Schools by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a national nonprofit dedicated to promoting equitable opportunities for children’s health and well-being.
This prestigious recognition is awarded annually to schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting the whole child through policies and practices that prioritize physical, mental, and social-emotional health. To be considered, schools must submit a detailed application and show evidence of their efforts in one or more of nine distinct categories: nutrition and food access, physical education and activity, social-emotional health and learning, staff well-being, family engagement, tobacco- and vape-free policies, environmental sustainability, school health services, and out-of-school time.
The following schools earned this year’s distinction:
Abner Creek Academy
Berry Shoals Elementary
Duncan Elementary School of the Arts
Lyman Elementary School
Reidville Elementary School
River Ridge Elementary School
Wellford Academy
Beech Springs Middle School
D.R. Hill Middle School
Florence Chapel Middle School
Byrnes Freshman Academy
Byrnes High School
Each of the schools along with their principals and school-level coordinators, were honored recently at a District Five Board of Trustees meeting. They were each presented with banners, which they'll proudly hang in their school building. Congratulations to our "America's Healthiest School" honorees!
