A familiar face will soon lead Spartanburg District Five Schools’ Transportation Department, guiding a staff of 80 drivers and a fleet of nearly 100 buses, to safely transport thousands of students daily. Drew Sloan has been selected as the District’s new Director of Transportation, following selection by District leadership and affirmation by the Board of Trustees.
Sloan is no stranger to the District Five family, as he joined the Transportation Department as Assistant Director in 2023. Prior to joining District Five, he was a math teacher and assistant administrator in Spartanburg District One.
In his brief time as Assistant Director, Sloan has been an extremely valuable member of District Five’s Transportation Department, supervising staff, scheduling drivers, and monitoring a routing system that serves more than 8,000 bus riders daily.
“I am honored, humbled and excited about the opportunity to continue working in Spartanburg District Five,” says Sloan. “I’m looking forward to working closely with district leaders, school administrators, drivers, coaches, and teachers as our great district continues to grow.”
Sloan earned his Bachelors in Math Education from Limestone College, his Masters in Administration and Supervision from Southern Wesleyan University, and an Education Specialist degree from Furman University.
“Drew Sloan is an incredible asset to our Transportation Department and to the Spartanburg District Five family,” says Superintendent Dr. Randall Gary. “His experience working closely with students and families, both inside and outside the classroom, gives him a unique perspective that I’m confident will greatly benefit our growing district.”
Sloan will officially assume the role on July 1, as current Director of Transportation, Theresa Taylor, will retire this summer.
