What a great day to share all of our Friday night Rebels! Channel 7 WSPA was so happy to be on our campus and enjoyed talking with all of our fantastic students for a live broadcast. Friday night lights has two great opportunities for you! In addition to Round 1 of the playoffs for the Rebels, the Rebel Regiment will get one last full show in during half-time before they head off to the 5A state competition this weekend!

Mrs. Graham's Biology class played a hot seat class tournament as a genetics review game.

On Friday, our AVID elective students traveled to the University Center in Greenville for the College 101 Workshop. They attended sessions designed to help them prepare for college and met with representatives from several schools. Some of our students were also awarded preliminary acceptance and scholarships to attend South Carolina State University. What a great opportunity for our students!

Wrestling Season will begin Monday October 30 at Byrnes High School wrestling room for Boys and Girls. Practices will be after school Monday-Friday 4:00-6:00. Athletes must have a physical and all documents completed on planeths in order to participate. Byrnes High School College Application Day (CAD) is Thursday, October 19th, 2023. Seniors who need online college application assistance are invited to one of three sessions offered (based on Lunch Assignments). Teachers have the CAD Session assignments. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Spanish Teachers of Byrnes declared today Hispanic Heritage Day. Many students dressed to represent a Spanish speaking country or Hispanic culture. Our Spanish teachers say: ¡Muchas gracias!

Today, our district hosted our first half-day/Early Release Day for professional development for this school year. All BHS staff participated in WICOR to Increase Rigor sessions. Learning objectives included: -Clarify understandings of what RIGOR is and what it is not. -Discover how writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, reading, and digital learning can contribute to the RIGOR of a learning experience. -Select appropriate WICOR strategies to increase the RIGOR of a lesson. Our AVID team worked hard to prepare this professional development! Congratulations to our James F. Byrnes High School Distinguished Teacher of Literacy for 2023, Mrs. Lea Elizabeth Harrison. Mrs Harrison teaches both English 3 and 4 Honors at BHS. She leads English activities in her classroom that are engaging to her students and relevant! She consistently goes above and beyond to create an English classroom where students can succeed. Mrs Harrison was surprised by the administrative team with a certificate and a beautiful fall mum, as she represented BHS in an interview for the district-level Teacher of Literacy yesterday, October 3. Congratulations, Mrs Harrison! We are so proud of you!!
