The results for the State winners in the Law Day Essay Contest were announced, and the overall State Winner for the contest is a Byrnes alum! The essays were submitted in the Spring, and three Byrnes students were celebrated at the Spartanburg County ceremony in May. The State Bar Association then judges the winners from the participating counties.
Gaby Santana is the state winner! She graduated from Byrnes in May and is currently attending Clemson University. She and her family will be guests at the SC Bar’s annual convention in Savannah, Georgia, where she will receive her $1,000 check and award.
Isabella Sarvis is also a 2025 Byrnes graduate and currently attends the Florida Institute of Technology. She will receive $500 and an award for her best essay in the 12th-grade division for SC.
The 2025 Law Day Essay theme was “THE CONSTITUTION’S PROMISE: OUT OF MANY, ONE”. Students are to write a 1000-word or less essay on the following topic: “The founding fathers used the phrase 'We the People' as the first words in the Preamble to the Constitution. The Great Seal of the United States contains the phrase 'E Pluribus Unum' – Out of Many, One." These essays were blind graded by a group of volunteer members of the South Carolina Circuit Judiciary.
Congratulations to both of these Class of 2025 graduates!
