🌎 WORLD WEDNESDAY 🌎 Speak It. Know It. Experience It. 🌺Mrs. Petits Spanish 2 and Spanish 3 Honors completed Hispanic Heritage Month with a closing activity. They took a look at the other classes' display of renowned Hispanic professionals in the USA, in order to find relevant information about their contributions in different fields (while enjoying Hawaiian theme day on Monday). 🌎 Mrs. Greenfield’s Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 students proudly shared their cultural presentations while celebrating diversity and developing communication skills for 🌎🇲🇽🇩🇴🇵🇪 🇪🇸 Project #2 of Hispanic Heritage Month. 📣Mrs. Garcia’s Spanish students presented their projects for Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Math department was able to gather together and celebrate THREE new doctors on Friday! Congratulations to Dr. Sellie DeMarco, Dr. Amber Hedgpeth and Dr. Megan Coker on on this major accomplishment!! 🎓🎓🎓

The homecoming parade will begin at approximately 4:30 PM, tomorrow, October 8th. The parade will form in the parking lot directly in front of Byrnes, across HWY 290, and will route the perimeter of Duncan Elementary. The best location for observers will be on the sidewalks surrounding Duncan Elementary and in front of Byrnes Freshman Academy. Come out and support all of your favorite Rebels!!

Congratulations are in order for members of both our girls and boys swim teams, who are headed to the 2026 Swimming State Championships! This championship run is the result of podium finishes in Region swim competition for Kira Garrett, who got first place in both the 200 and 100 free AND set a new team record in the 200 free with a time of 1:57.21! Along with Charlie Malone, who got third place in the 100 back! Bailey Williamson, Abigail Moore, Caroline McCarty, and Kira Garrett got third place in the 400 free relay. And Kira Garrett and Charlie Malone for got All Region--top 20 point scorers!! The Class AAAAA Swimming State Championship sessions will be held this Thursday (girls) 10/8 at 6:00pm and this Saturday (boys) 10/10 at 6:00pm at the University of South Carolina Natatorium in the Solomon Blatt Physical Education Center located at 1440 Wheat Street Columbia SC 29201. 🚒 Today, Mrs. Demumbreum's Forensic Science class hosted: 🔥 Spartanburg County Captain, Byrnes alumni, Jacob Newman 🔥 Lieutenant Ryan Jones of Duncan Fire department and 🔥 Firefighter, Byrnes alumni, Brady Rice from Duncan Fire Department. Students were able to ask questions, talk about real-world problems and, of course, use some fire tech on the fire truck and try on some gear. And even high schoolers enjoy stickers!! 🥰

🎶 That's a wrap! The C. Phillip McIntyre Tournament of Bands was a success. We have an amazing Rebel Regiment Family of staff, students volunteers and boosters who pulled off a modified rain schedule for the remaining 18 bands and pulled off an amazing full day showcase! Thank you to all the bands who came from all over South Carolina to participate!

Teachers were busy today in staff development sessions with their Professional Learning Communities (PLC) and departments. Additional sessions on campus included the AVID site team and department chair meetings. Our District Staff Development Day also allowed specialty groups to meet with their colleagues from other campuses including: all Career Development Facilitators, all Guidance Counselors and all Multilingual Learner Program Teachers. It was a great day!

🔬Discover & Design Thursday ➗ Calculate. Experiment. Create. 🧫Mrs. Yarborough’s Chemistry students looked at precipitates through the bottom of a microwell plate. 🫆Mrs. Demumbreum’s Forensics students hosted Spartanburg’s County’s Chief Coroner Investigator Jonathan Lawson to share his experience as a coroner and his prior experiences in law enforcement. ⚠️Dr. Hedgpeth’s Math classes witnessed the dangers of extrapolation on Friday with the conclusion of their Barbie Bungee activity. While a few Barbies had a good jump, most of the models did not hold up to extrapolation. One particular doll appeared to explode upon impact!

🌎🇲🇽🇨🇴🇩🇴🇬🇹🇵🇪🇪🇸 Mrs. Greenfield’s Spanish 1 students worked on their Hispanic Heritage Project with the objective to explore the culture and traditions of a Spanish-speaking country while developing Spanish language skills. 🌎✨

⌨️Mrs. Petit’s Spanish 2 Honors practiced their spelling with an online typing game and then read and corrected statements about food and beverages.🍔🧃

Our AVID students took a field trip to Greenville Tech yesterday!📚

🖥️ Tech Tuesday 🖥️ Power Up Your Future! 🎥Media Tech interns running the Jumbotron. This opportunity is part of a district internship program that gives students real-world experience working in live production through Media Tech.

Conquer. 🏋️‍♀️ Coach Cross’s Strength and Fitness students hit the weight room today. 🥏 Coach Higdon’s PE classes played disk golf at Tyger River Park. 👟FIGHT Club (Friends Into Getting Healthy Together) did a mile of cardio on Main Street and were able to stop at Ohana's for a cool treat thanks to retired club founder, Coach Holcombe.
