📢 Miss Culbertson’s 3rd Graders Are Mining for Knowledge!** ⛏️🍪 This week, students learned about the four uses of land in an economy—including mining. To bring it to life, they became cookie miners, using toothpicks to carefully extract chocolate chips. 🍫⛏️ What a sweet way to learn! 🌍💡 #TREThirdGrade #MiningForKnowledge

Students have been learning about the life cycle of pumpkins in the library. On Halloween, our K4 classes planted "Cookie Monster" in a container in the library. For months, students watched the pumpkin decompose and change during their library visits. On Monday, we returned to school to find that our pumpkin had sprouted seedlings. After 122 days, our students were so excited to see the next step of the life cycle! 🎃🌱

This week, our 4th grade classes participated in an activity to learn about the history leading up to the American Revolution. Queen Jackson and Queen Gillespie's colonists led a protest at the end of the day to encourage the other colonists in Queen Hinch and Queen Cassidy's room to rebel. What a fun way to learn history!

This week, two of our Terriers had the opportunity to attend a Legislative Hill Day with our D5 Teacher Forum. Katie Farr and Gena Corbitt had the opportunity to engage with lawmakers, tour the SC Senate Chamber and advocate for education. What a great opportunity to advocate for our students!

Our 1st and 2nd grade STEM classes have been working to build 3D playgrounds that can provide shade to protect from the sun's UV rays. They worked together to build playgrounds, then placed special beads strategically around the playground to see if their structures provided protection. If the beads didn't turn purple or pink, they were protected from the sun's rays. What an awesome way to learn skills that apply to our everyday lives! #STEM

To celebrate Valentine's Day, fourth graders in Ms. Gillespie and Dr. Jackson's classes recognized those who help the students every day at Tyger River Elementary--our custodians, cafeteria staff, and office staff. Their "Serve with Love" project was an amazing opportunity for students to give back to those who work so hard to keep our school running smoothly. They decorated the cafeteria and served brunch to recognize the hard work of others.
