Mrs. Leonard and Mrs. Redding‘s 8th grade social studies classes are finishing up a jigsaw project about the Thirteen Colonies. Different groups of students were assigned different regions of the Thirteen Colonies and were required to research specific information about that region. After the research was finished, students shared or presented the information to the rest of the class in order to teach them about the region they researched. This activity included all components of the AVID WICOR strategies: writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading.

Congratulations to Sydnee Jones!

Sydnee is a student in the 8th grade advanced chorus, and was selected to perform in the SC ACDA Middle School Honor Choir. A select number is chosen from over 1200 applicants from across our state. Sydnee is the first student from DRH to be selected for this honor choir. We are proud and excited for her to represent our school! (We are also loving her mismatched clothes as she is showing her support for Red Ribbon week!)

Mrs. Russo and Mrs. Deleu’s eighth grade English class worked in small groups to analyze the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost. As part of their book study of The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the class worked together to annotate the poem and relate it back to the novel. Afterwards, small groups worked together to discuss questions related to the poem and find text evidence to support their answers.
