D.R. Hill Middle School has officially earned EcoSchools U.S. Green Flag Certification — the highest level of recognition in the program!
Even more exciting, this was our first year applying, and D.R. Hill is the first school in the Upstate to achieve this certification.
This recognition reflects the hard work of our students, staff, and community partners through sustainability, conservation, recycling, school gardens, and student-led environmental action.

Congratulations to Quindariah Griffin, Adelynn Beaty, Brady Stevens, and Amerie Saroeun for making the Honors Rebel Theatre Company at Byrnes High School next year. Students from the high school and every middle school within D5 are required to audition to be admitted into the Rebel Theatre Company, which guarantees them a spot in next year's productions on the high school level. Over 60 students auditioned, but only 35 students total are accepted. We had our most successful admittance rate yet, with 4/35 students being from D.R. Hill Middle School!

Congratulations to Issiaka Traore and Meili Gosnell for their acceptance into Scholars Academy at USC Upstate! The Scholars Academy provides advanced learners with a quality education in a supportive learning environment. Through a partnership between Spartanburg County Schools and USC Upstate, the program allows students to take college courses and advanced high school classes over four years while still participating in classes and extracurricular activities at their home high school.

Congratulations to our DRH Band students on an outstanding performance at the 2026 SCBDA Solo and Ensemble! Students traveled to Dorman High School to perform solos, duets, trios, and quartets for judges. We are proud to share that they earned 12 Superior ratings and 1 Excellent rating. We are especially impressed by their dedication, as they prepared these pieces almost entirely on their own—practicing before school, after school, and in their free time. Way to go, Tigers! 🎶

Thank you for all that you do for DR Hill!

Today for Earth Day, Garden Club, Cafeteria, and Ms. Cotterman’s 1st period worked together to make sure every student had seeds to plant, so every student has a chance to grow. These seeds were saved from our own gardens and our school’s native pollinator garden.
