7th and 8th grade choir students performed at CPA (Concert Performance Assessment) this morning and earned the highest rating of Superior with Distinction. They also received an incredible score of 98/100 on three-part sight reading! Congratulations to Mrs. Ohler and all of her students!

Mrs. Landon’s 8th graders turned review day into game day! 🎲🧠 Students played Block ‘Em to prepare for their upcoming test, thinking fast as they decided whether to go on offense to get four in a row or switch to defense and block their teammates. Strategy, quick thinking, and a little friendly competition made for the perfect review! 🔵❌🟡

Friday we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day at ACMS by rocking our crazy socks!
Our students and staff showed up in colorful, mismatched socks to celebrate individuality, promote inclusion, and raise awareness for people with Down syndrome. Each pair of socks was a reminder that being different is what makes our school community so special!
We are proud to stand together to spread kindness, acceptance, and understanding.

🦋 Masters of Disguise in 8th Grade Science Class! 👀🌿
Our 8th graders have been learning all about adaptations and how animals use camouflage and mimicry to survive in the wild. To put their knowledge to the test, students designed and camouflaged their very own butterflies, blending them into their surroundings just like animals do in nature!
Then came the real challenge… the teachers had to try to find them! 🔍 Some butterflies were so well hidden they almost escaped detection completely. Safe to say these students definitely increased their butterflies’ chances of survival! 🦋🌎
Check out the photos and see if you can spot them! 👀

We are so proud of these 8 students who represented ACMS so well at Spartanburg Sings honor choir this weekend! These students rehearsed all day Friday and Saturday morning, then performed in a concert Saturday afternoon.

Students in Mrs. Williams’ Medical Detective classes have been learning about the nervous system and all about the way our brain functions. Recently they dissected a sheep brain to explore the brain even further!

Abner Creek Middle School was proud to be the host of the District Five 7th Grade Career Fair! 7th graders from all four middle schools met with vendors about exciting career opportunities and future goals. It was an amazing day of learning! Thank you Mrs. Charles, our career development facilitator, and to everyone else who made this day possible!

Seventh and eighth grade students recently participated in some thoughtful exercises with peers at FCA.

Beta Club members worked hard last week to create bins and posters for our upcoming house competition in support of the Spartanburg Humane Society! Starting March 23, please bring in items to donate to the Humane Society including items, such as food, cat litter, paper, towels, etc.

Sixth grade students in Dr. Gray's class worked hard on communicating their thinking through a vertical whiteboard sesion. After, they were finished they discussed all of the thinking that happened around the room and left notes for each group on what they wondered, questioned, and praised. Our 6th grade math teachers are really setting them up for successful, productive struggle.

Students in Mrs. Linkous' social studies classes have been working on close reading and annotating the text with nonfiction signposts. After reading, they created slides to teach their peers the information that they learned. While students presented, the rest of the class took notes. Watching students take the lead was very powerful, and they all did a great job!

Yesterday, students in Ms Pierce’s class put their argumentative skills to the test in a full-on SpongeBob trial. SpongeBob was found guilty in all 4 classes!
Not only were they having fun, but they were also practicing critical thinking, speaking skills, and learning how to support their claims with evidence.

🍀 Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀
Today our faculty and staff enjoyed a little St. Patrick’s Day fun with green snacks in the mail room! From sweet treats to festive goodies, it was a great way to add a little luck and appreciation to the day!

A big "thank you" to all of our students and families who participated in the PTO chocolate fundraiser! Last week students had their reward day, and it was a blast!
As always, our PTO appreciates everyone's support!

Mr. Watson's AVID students collaborated with Mr. Sandlin's AVID students at Florence Chapel for AVID Day! It was hosted by the Atlanta Hawks, so they spent the day in Atlanta! They had the opportunity to listen to the marketing team, and agents discussed career opportunities followed by a college fair. They ended the evening with a basketball game! We are so thankful for all of these opportunities for our students and know there were many memories made!

We were honored to welcome Mr. Scott Cochran, President of Spartanburg Methodist College, to visit with our 8th graders today! His message was inspiring, encouraging, and full of valuable insight for our students as they begin thinking about their future.
Thank you, Mr. Cochran, for taking the time to visit us at Abner Creek Middle School. It was a fantastic and meaningful opportunity for our students!

By measuring circles and indulging in oatmeal cream pies, Mrs. Kay's students discovered the power of collaborative learning and the beauty of pi. Happy Pi Day!
