On September 19th, we set sail on an exciting journey to celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day! From colorful pirate costumes to thrilling stories, the day was packed with fun, learning, and plenty of pirate spirit.

One of the highlights was a lively read-aloud session led by the wonderful Ms. Caroline Davis. She brought the pirate world to life with captivating tales that had everyone hooked. But the adventure didn’t stop there — we also dove into the special vocabulary of the day to really speak like true pirates!

Our crew learned and practiced some classic pirate words and phrases, including:

  • Ahoy: A cheerful greeting to catch someone’s attention on the high seas.

  • Matey: A friendly term for a shipmate or friend.

  • Buccaneer: A daring pirate known for sailing the seas and seeking adventure.

  • Scallywag: A playful name for a mischievous or cheeky person.

  • Plunder: The treasure or loot pirates seek during their voyages.

Students enjoyed using these words throughout the day, making their pirate talk authentic and fun. Dressing up in pirate hats, eye patches, and striped shirts, the whole school embraced the swashbuckling spirit.

Talk Like a Pirate Day was not only a chance to celebrate with costumes and stories but also a wonderful opportunity to build vocabulary and celebrate creativity. We’re proud of our little buccaneers for diving into new words and sharing smiles all around!

Until next time, keep your pirate hats ready and your “Ahoy!” loud!
