Today, Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Ferrell's class learned about sorting in math! They counted bears and practiced sorting them by color and then size. 🐻🏫📝

Thanks to your support of Tat Attack during Rock Your School Day, Tyger River Elementary was able to stock the shelves for the Greer Soup Kitchen. We raised a grand total of $876. Way to go, Terriers!

Congratulations to our Distinguished Literacy Teacher of the Year, Kellie Smith!

Kellie, our incredible school media specialist, has a true passion for reading and a gift for sharing that love with our students. She goes above and beyond to help students discover books that are just right for them and creates meaningful opportunities for our entire school community to celebrate literacy.

From planning engaging literacy events to promoting reading throughout our school, Kellie works every day to build a schoolwide love of reading. We are so proud to celebrate her dedication, passion, and the impact she has on our students!

Last week, we celebrated AVID Day and our students dressed for their future goals.

Ms. Cox and Mrs. Gillespie's classes had a special visitor! Ms. Cox' father came to talk to students about his career as a Financial Advisor, the history of banking, and the importance of saving and spending money!

Tomorrow is the first day of the Literati Book Fair! There are plenty of books and fun activities to see at the fair. You can also visit the fair during Grits with Grandparents.

If a student uses a gift card to purchase their book fair items, they will get to choose a free mini-poster at the book fair.

Today, Mrs. Rosillo's class made Oobleck to experiment with the states of matter. They had so much fun trying to decide if Oobleck was a solid or liquid! 🔬👩‍🔬🥼

🎨📚 Our 4th graders celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month in the library with a colorful journey into Mexican culture! Students read Vida: The Mice, the Cat, and the Alebrije and discovered the fascinating history behind alebrijes—vibrant, fantastical creatures from Mexican folk art.

After learning about this tradition, our young artists designed and created their own unique alebrijes! The creativity and imagination were absolutely amazing. 💜🧡💚

What a wonderful way to honor Hispanic heritage and explore the power of storytelling and art!

On September 15, our incredible staff and teachers at Tyger River Elementary School came together to celebrate International Dot Day! Inspired by Peter H. Reynolds' beloved book The Dot, we embraced creativity, courage, and the power of just getting started.

From colorful dot art displays lining our hallways to classrooms filled with students discovering their unique creative voices, it was a day of inspiration and joy. Our teachers showed our students that making your mark—no matter how small—can lead to something extraordinary!

A huge thank you to our amazing staff for bringing this celebration to life and encouraging every child to believe in themselves. Here at Tyger River, we know that every student has something special to share with the world. 🌟

Today was Rock Your School Day at Tyger River Elementary! 🎶🎸🎹🎤

Rock Your School is an annual global movement that helps educators transform regular school days into creative, engaging, and memorable learning experiences.

Our students had a great day creating their own "kindness rocks," singing karaoke, playing rock music with Mrs. Gill, and enjoying read alouds from special guests!

Our staff also competed in a rock-paper-scissors game throughout the day. Congratulations to our winner--Shaun Ferguson!

Our first graders are wrapping up an amazing year-long journey studying life cycles!

As kindergarteners, they watched caterpillars and pumpkins grow in our library. Last week, they returned to see the next generation of butterflies and pumpkins thriving!

Nothing beats hands-on learning that spans the seasons! And they got to see a special surprise guest in the garden...a hummingbird!🌱✨

Mrs. Rice, Mrs. Wood, and Mrs. Williams first grade classes have been learning how setting can change with the book "How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World". The main character visits different countries/settings in the book to get an ingredient on each page since the "market is closed". For example, in Italy she gets wheat.

In class, they also got a different ingredient every day. After finally collecting all of the ingredients to make an "apple pie", students were able to get a mini apple pie and ice cream.

A huge thank you to Ninja! They graciously donated a Ninja Slushie machine to Mrs. Brown for her second grade class! These second grade students enjoy these on Friday afternoon after meeting weekly reading goals!

📚⚾ Special visitor alert! Mr. Daugherty made a surprise appearance in Mrs. Jackson's first grade class today for a baseball-themed read aloud!

Our students were thrilled to have our principal share the joy of reading with them. Thank you for taking the time to inspire our young readers!

Mrs. Camp’s class became Math Surgeons yesterday!  They rotated through stations to “operate” on numbers, identifying the value of digits, working with expanding form and strengthening their understanding of thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones. It was fun watching them learn through movement, teamwork, and hands-on activities. These surgeons did an amazing job! #placevaluesurgery #thirdgrademath #handsonlearning #makingmathfun

Today was the first annual Terrier Tailgate Party! 🏈🥳🍔

The multipurpose room was decorated and there were a delicious lunch for staff members! Thank you so much to the Climate Committee for organizing this fun event to celebrate as a staff. We appreciate your hard work!
