Ms. Wagaman's classes used various types of candy to build their own animal cells. Vanilla frosting represented the cytoplasm. Pull ‘n’ peel twizzlers represented the cell membrane. Frooties represented the endoplasmic reticulum. Nerds represented the ribosomes. Mini m&ms represented the mitochondria. A satellite wafer represented the nucleus. A hello panda cookie represented the lysosome. Students had a blast and shared that this activity really helped solidify the organelles and their functions in their minds!

D5 recently hosted a PLTW Showcase for teachers across the Upstate, giving them a hands-on look at how STEM and career-connected learning come alive in the classroom. Visiting educators observed a 7th grade Design & Modeling class as students applied the design process to create their own custom puzzle cubes. Afterward, the guests put their problem-solving skills to the test by trying to solve these puzzles themselves!

8th graders: Reminder that ALL field trip money & forms are DUE OCTOBER 31. We cannot accept any late payments on this as we have to give final numbers to Swamp Rabbits that afternoon. This is a great opportunity for them to see everything we have learned in science, in action. They also do a great job with STEM displays and interactive exhibits for them to explore.
