Wellford Academy proudly hosted a meaningful Black History Celebration centered on education, unity, and the powerful legacy of those who paved the way before us. The program was a beautiful reflection of our students’ learning, leadership, and appreciation for history.
Our students thoughtfully explained the “why” behind celebrating Black History Month and shared the “how”—the origins of this month-long observance and its importance in recognizing the contributions, achievements, and resilience of Black Americans throughout history.
A moving student performance highlighted a pivotal moment in educational history—Brown v. Board of Education—and illustrated how schools were once segregated. Through their presentation, students demonstrated both understanding and gratitude for the progress that has been made toward equity in education.
Wellford Academy also took time to honor Black educators, past and present, who have made a lasting impact on District 5. We proudly recognized:
Miss Judy Watson
The Late Jerry Rice
Dr. Patrice Geter
Mr. Todd Hardy
Dr. Randall Gary
Their dedication, leadership, and service continue to inspire our Wolfpack community.
The celebration concluded with heartfelt affirmations from our kindergarten students and a special dance performance honoring our educators. It was a joyful and powerful ending to a program that reminded us all of the importance of unity, perseverance, and the transformative power of education.
This event would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our committee members:
