Tyger River Elementary was buzzing with excitement last week when Superintendent Dr. Gary made a surprise visit to congratulate our staff on earning an Excellent rating on the South Carolina State Report Card. The surprise meeting quickly turned into a heartfelt celebration of the dedication, teamwork, and student-centered focus that define our school community.
The visit highlighted the collective effort behind this achievement. From classroom teachers and special education staff to custodians, food service workers, paraprofessionals, counselors, and administrators — every role played a part in creating the conditions for student success. Dr. Gary took time to recognize specific programs and practices that have supported growth, including targeted interventions, collaborative planning, strong family engagement, and the creative instructional strategies teachers use every day.
Earning an Excellent rating on the SC State Report Card reflects strong academic performance and progress, as well as our commitment to providing a safe, supportive learning environment. It’s a validation of evidence-based instruction, meaningful assessments, and a school culture that prioritizes every child. Most importantly, this recognition belongs to our students. Their hard work, curiosity, and resilience are at the heart of everything we do.
While we’re taking time to celebrate, our focus remains on continuous improvement. The Excellent rating energizes us to build on our strengths, refine instructional practices, and expand opportunities that help all students thrive. Plans are already underway to share successful strategies across the district and to continue engaging families in meaningful ways.
