A familiar face is returning to his roots, as Byrnes High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Shuler Bentley as the Rebels’ new Offensive Coordinator.
Bentley returns to Byrnes following a successful coaching career that includes experience at both the high school and collegiate levels. Most recently, he served as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, where he helped guide the program to a region championship and led an offense that averaged more than 30 points per game.
Prior to his time at Montgomery Catholic, Bentley coached quarterbacks at Charleston Southern University and served as an offensive analyst at Coastal Carolina University, contributing to conference-leading offenses and bowl game appearances. He began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Troy University, where the offense ranked among the nation’s best during his tenure.
A former quarterback at Byrnes, Bentley brings a deep understanding of the program’s rich tradition and success. Combined with his modern approach and years of experience at the collegiate level, he’s an ideal fit to lead the offense forward.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity to come back home and be part of a program that has such a special place in my heart,” Bentley said. “I’m excited to get to work with Coach Shaw, as well as the rest of the coaching staff, and especially our team. District Five is a special place, and I can’t wait to give back to the community that gave so much to me.”
Bentley earned his Bachelor’s degree from Murray State University and played quarterback at both Old Dominion University and Murray State during his collegiate career.
Bentley will begin his role in the coming weeks, as the Rebels tackle the off season and prepare for next year.
