In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month we will be featuring a recipe a day from a Spanish speaking country.
Today we are sharing a recipe for Ropa Vieja, a popular dish from Cuba. The folklore behind the dish says that a man had no food to feed his family so he cooked and seasoned his clothes. Ropa Vieja means old clothes. He prayed for food and the real food appeared.
Lester, one of our 6th graders is from Cuba and says, "We are an island in the Caribbean with beautiful water and delicious food."
This dish is a culinary delight and we have found a simple, slow cooker version to prepare. We hope you enjoy it and please stay tuned for our next one!

We are excited to announce our AVID fundraiser which will be a year-round student operated school store "The Wolf Den". We will have our opening on Friday, however our normal days will be Mondays and Wednesdays as deemed feasible (other days may vary) during each lunch period. We will be set up on the stage inside the cafeteria and have basic snack items, chips, cookies, drinks, and candy. All proceeds go toward our field trips, events, and supplies!

Crochet Club is in full swing, and they are creating some amazing projects! 7th grader Eddy Jaimes even donated a hat to our "Wolves Warm Hearts" for Western NC cause. He crocheted it himself and finished it just today!

The ACMS "Wolves Warm Hearts" project is providing warm mittens, hats, and socks for students. This can make a big difference, especially as the colder months approach.
