Today, 4th graders in Ms. Mostel's class participated in their very first Socratic Seminar! Students explored the big idea of identity by defending which story they have studied best represents this theme. Each student chose an important role within the group—whether as a speaker, note taker, or text evidence finder—and worked together to build a thoughtful discussion. It was exciting to see them actively listen, use evidence to support their ideas, and collaborate to deepen their understanding of identity.

This week, Mrs. Thornton’s 5th grade class took a super close look at matter. They learned that matter is made of tiny particles called atoms. On Thursday, students were asked the question: If there are only 118 different elements, how do more matter types exist? The class explored compounds, chemically combined elements, by creating them using sour patch kids.

"Our 4K lions in Ms. Amsler's class read Pitter Pattern and then created patterns of their own, while Mrs. Mangum's 1st grade class played a fun game of Kahoot for math review on their number patterns. Keep up the great math practice!"

This morning marked the first official day for our Safety Patrol, and they did an outstanding job! Many were outside greeting students with cheerful smiles and helping by opening car doors, while others guided students inside the building to ensure everyone found their way. We are so proud of their efforts and love seeing our students step up as leaders in our school community.

Mrs. Upton's 1st grade class routinely practices estimation using their ESTIMATION STATION. Students record their estimate, plot them on a number line, and count the objects to confirm the amount. Students are then rewarded for their hard work and those with the closest estimate get a little extra treat. 😁

Students in Ms. Stoxen's 5th grade ELA/SS class discovered the similarities between being sculptors and writers. The students explored being "creators" while brainstorming designs and sculpting first drafts. (We do this while pre-writing). Then they shifted into the "critic role" while editing and revising for our final product. (Changing point of views and peer editing). Students needed to explore their purpose for the product, in this case it needed to hold a pencil. Then they needed to understand their audience which were their peers and teachers. We were blown away with their creative ideas!

Mr. P read "I Promise" by LeBron James to Mrs. Pye's third grade class this morning! They discussed the promises they could make for this year, whether at school, home, or in their extracurriculars. The class then wrote down their promises for the year, and talked about how they could keep those promises to make their classroom a better place! Way to go Mrs. Pye's third grade class!
