Welcome to James F. Byrnes High School!

As principal, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our school campus.  We stand committed to creating classroom learning environments that are rich in academic rigor for every student--including a focus on student engagement and differentiated instruction.

Our goal is to see ALL students succeed by graduating on-time AND being college and career-ready for success in 2-yr college, 4-yr college, employment/careers, and/or military service.  Which pathway to success will your student take?  Please discuss the options below and contact us if you have questions or need additional information:

To be career-ready, our students must meet one of the following:

  • Pass courses as a CTE completer and earn a national or state industry credential
  • Earn a silver, gold, or platinum on the state-mandated W I N career-readiness assessment
  • Score 31 or higher on the ASVAB
  • Complete Work-Based Learning program
  • Complete the SC High School Credential program

To be college-ready, our students must meet one of the following:

  • Score 20 or higher on the ACT
  • Score 1020 or higher on the SAT
  • Score 3 or higher on an AP Exam
  • Complete 6 hours in Dual Enrollment courses, earning a “C” or higher

A wide variety of resources are available to assist our students and our families in reaching these goals–In addition to our dynamic classroom teachers, every student has a designated assistant principal, school counselor, and Career Development Facilitator.  Students are assigned a R E B S (Rebel Educators Building Relationships with Students) advocate who provides social-emotional lessons as well as Olweus Bullying Prevention.  Mental Health and Graduation Coach services are available to all.  On-campus programs like FLEX TIME (1:24-1:54 pm), Rebel Success Center (3:30-5:00 pm Mondays and Wednesdays), Academic Recapture, and test-prep seminars and workshops assist students with tutoring, remediation, and enrichment.  Students should take advantage of the authentic learning experiences offered at our partnering campuses R D Anderson Applied Technology Center, Spartanburg County Master Skills Center, Spartanburg Community College, and University of South Carolina-Upstate.  Many unique student clubs and organizations, including our award-winning athletic and Fine Arts programs, offer students the opportunity to pursue interests and develop Life and Career Characteristics like those included in the SC Profile of the Graduate.

We want our students prepared for post-secondary success after Graduation--Let’s work together to make this the best school year yet!

Go Rebels!
