Here's a feature from the upcoming edition of The Gator Gazette, a student newspaper at ACA:

Have you seen someone with curly hair and four paws in the hallway?

Then you just met Maggie, a golden doodle working with the Duncan Police Department. Maggie is not just any type of dog; she is a therapy dog.

The purpose of a therapy dog is to calm people when they're having a hard time or going through a crisis. “She is a great dog to have around,” explained Officer Brent Lewis, Maggie’s owner, who works with the Duncan Police Department. Officer Lewis and Maggie can be found in some of the District Five schools on Mondays and in the community throughout the week.

Maggie may be cute, but she is also well-trained for her role. She went through obedience training at three months old at the Paws and Stripes College in Brevard County, Florida, where she passed basic training and advanced good citizen training. Officer Lewis explained that therapy dogs often make it easier for people to talk when they are going through a hard time. He hopes to see Maggie help pave the way for more therapy dogs in our schools and community.
