Basketball season is officially upon us. This week our 7th grade boys took on Dawkins on Monday evening. In this matchup, Dawkins was able to get the best of our guys in a tight contested, hard fought game, 31 to 26. Also on Monday evening, our girls and 8th grade team traveled to Cherokee county to face the Granard Warriors. The Lady Cougars fell to Granard 32-14. In the late game, the 8th grade boys defeated the warriors, 49-25 to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Cougars were led by their two captains, Wykell Ladson (18 points) and Landyn James (9 points).
Last night, our girls and 8th grade squads faced the other middle school from Cherokee County, Gaffney. In the first game, Josie Workman scored 22 as the Lady Cougars defeated the Chiefs, 42-16, to improve to 2-1 on the season. In the 8th grade game, the boys rolled into halftime with a 32-6 lead, before eventually taking the win 51-17. This win moved the Cougars to 3-0 on the season and atop the Peachtree Conference standings early. The leading scorers for the game were Wykell Ladson (14 points), Rashard Wright (10 points) and Cam James (6 points in 4 minutes). The boys will face also undefeated McCracken on Monday (weather permitting).
If you get a chance, come see these two teams play! We have three really good teams that have chances to contend for the conference championship.
