New Bell Schedule To Begin In 2022-23 School Year

When the 2022-23 school year begins in August, an important change will take place for students and staff across Spartanburg District Five Schools. Following approval by the district's Board of Trustees, District Five will implement a new bell schedule for students and staff at the elementary, middle and high school level.  This means that, beginning in August, the time that school starts and ends each day will be changing for those schools.  Students and staff in the district's intermediate schools will not be impacted.

The new approved schedule is below:

The change came after months of research by administrators and district staff.  The district also took a close look at traffic patterns and concerns of parents and student drivers, along with the challenges of its current bus transportation system.  Several key factors prompted this change:

  • Enormous growth of the district, increasing the number of student bus drivers
  • Many district school buses having to run double, and triple routes each day to accommodate the increase in ridership
  • Increased traffic on many major district roads, which impacts arrival and dismissal for families who transport students by car, and the arrival and leave times of district buses
  • Challenges facing families who must travel to multiple schools

District Five will continue to communicate with parents about this important change as the new school year approaches.
