New Wrestling, Men's Golf Coaches Named At Byrnes High School
Two familiar faces will be taking on head coaching duties for Byrnes High School's wrestling and men's golf programs.
Kane Pruitt has been named wrestling Head Coach, taking over for Coach Russ Howard, who was recently named the school's Athletic Director. Pruitt has been with Rebel wrestling program since 2015, when he arrived at the school as a teacher and Assistant Coach. Prior to Byrnes, Pruitt was an assistant wrestling coach at Spartanburg Methodist College, where he wrestled from 2010-12.
The Rebel men's golf team is also getting a new leader, as Coach Arthur Brooks takes over the role of Head Coach. Brooks is no stranger to the Rebel golfing program as he's served as head coach of the ladies golf team for nine seasons, leading the Lady Rebels to a Region Championship, and the team's first-ever Upper State title. During that time, Brooks served as an assistant coach for the boys' team. He's also been named "Region Coach of the Year". Coach Brooks first came to District Five as a teacher and full time coach in 2015. He takes over for Coach Mickey Deering, who is retiring this year. Brooks will continue to coach the Lady Rebels, in addition to his new duties.
