District Five Names Teacher, Support Employee of the Year
Congratulations are in order for two very special employees in Spartanburg District Five, named the "best of the best" when it comes to teaching, and supporting their schools.
Kelly Jewett, a Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science teacher at Byrnes High School, has been named the 2022-23 District Five Teacher of the Year.
Jewett has been a part of the District Five family since 2007, teaching at Byrnes for the last 10 years. A graduate of Erskine College, Kelly's teaching style is rooted in relationships, and she strives to connect with students in order to bring out the best in them. She says her greatest accomplishment in education is when she sees her students succeed long after they've left her classroom.
As District Teacher of the Year, Kelly will now serve as an advocate for her fellow teachers, and a representative of District Five, along with other teachers from across the state.
Congratulations are also in order for Corporal John Wright, from Wellford Academy, as he has been named District Five's Support Employee of the Year!
Corporal Wright is the school resource officer at Wellford, where he has been for the last four years. Every morning, you might find him giving greetings to every class at the school, or holding his popular "thumbs up round" with students. While safety is the most important part of his job, Corporal Wright says his favorite part is building meaningful relationships with students, so that they can succeed in the classroom.
Congratulations again to these outstanding members of our District Five family! We are so proud of both of you!
