It is with extremely heavy hearts that Spartanburg District Five Schools announces that Jeff Proper, a treasured member of our Board of Trustees, passed away Tuesday, September 28.
A devoted husband and loving father of two District Five students, Mr. Proper was first elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2015. He faithfully served the students and schools of District Five, seeing the district through times of great change and growth, while remaining a strong advocate for teachers and student success.
“Jeff Proper was an incredible champion for Spartanburg District Five Schools, and believed in our mission of every child, every day,” said Superintendent Dr. Randall Gary. “He leaves a void on our board, and in our hearts, that we won’t be able to fill.”
During his time on District Five’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Proper served on the curriculum and instruction, and the finance committee. He was also a member on the board of RD Anderson Applied Technology Center. “Our hearts are broken at the news of this loss,” shared District Five Board Chair Julie McMakin. “Jeff was a strong supporter of District Five schools, and we’re going to miss him tremendously. Our prayers are with his wife, children and family.”
A faithful sports and Clemson Tigers fan, Proper was also a dedicated coach and volunteer for the District Five Sports and Activity Council (D5 SAC), where he served in a variety of roles for more than a decade. His service to children and the community in that organization was unmatched.
We hope the entire District Five community will join us in keeping the Proper family in their thoughts and prayers.
