In light of new DHEC numbers released late this week and feedback from families and employees, District Five is making a significant high school schedule change for the week of November 23-27.
Unfortunately, these numbers reflect a large increase in the incident rate, and percentage of positive COVID-19 tests, in Spartanburg County and across the Upstate, in just the last week.
As a result, the "trial day" originally planned for all high school students to attend Tuesday, November 24, will no longer take place.Instead, students at Byrnes Freshman Academy and Byrnes High School will remain on their normal high school hybrid schedule for the week of November 23. Group A (last names A-K) will attend Monday, November 23. Group B(last names L-Z) will attend school on Tuesday, November 24.All District Five schools will be closed November 25-27 for the Thanksgiving holidays, as planned.
This schedule change will give the district time to reevaluate its plan to return all high school students to full face-to-face instruction. We will continue to evaluate district COVID infection rates, as well as DHEC numbers, to determine the path moving forward.Any further changes to the schedule following Thanksgiving break will be communicated to students, staff, and families as soon as possible.
