Fowler Named New Abner Creek Academy Assistant Principal

Melissa Fowler picture Spartanburg District Five Schools is proud to announce Melissa Fowler has been named the new Assistant Principal at Abner Creek Academy.


Fowler moves into the role following Shayne Daugherty, who was recently appointed as Principal at Abner Creek.


A longtime educator, Fowler has been a part of the Spartanburg District Five family since 2004.  Most recently, she has served as a Literacy Coach at Abner Creek for the last 6 years, supporting teachers to improve instruction, implement ELA curriculum, and ultimately, increase student achievement.  Prior to her coaching tenure, she served as a 3rd grade teacher at Abner Creek since 2008, and prior to that, at Reidville Elementary School.  Fowler began her career in the classroom as a teacher in nearby Spartanburg District One.


Throughout her teaching career, Fowler has been honored for her accomplishments in the classroom, being named Teacher of the Year at Reidville Elementary in 2007-2008, and District Five Teacher of the Year in 2008-2009.


Fowler earned her Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, with a minor in Spanish, from Clemson University, and her Masters in Elementary Education from Converse College.  She will earn her Masters in Educational Leadership from American College of Education in October 2020.
