January Celebrated As "School Board Appreciation Month"

School board with students School districts across South Carolina, including District Five, took time out during the month of January to say "thank you" to some very special leaders: their school boards!  January is recognized as "School Board Appreciation Month" across the state, so every year, schools and districts show their appreciation for all the ways boards serve their students and districts.

In District Five, it is an annual tradition for schools to "adopt" individual board members to recognize.  Throughout the month, board members were treated to tours, on campus lunches and discussions with students.  In addition, at the district's January Board of Trustees meeting, a student from each school presented their board member with a book in their honor.

District Five is especially grateful for its nine Board of Trustees members, who spend countless hours serving and advocating on behalf of our students and schools:  Steve Brockman, Mark Cleveland, Dawn Deck., Rick Eitel, Meredith Gergley, Phil McIntyre, Julie Mcmakin, Jeff Proper, and Michael Thompson.  We appreciate all you do!
