Byrnes Senior Performs In Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
A Byrnes High School student had something extra to be thankful for this Thanksgiving: the chance to perform in front of millions of people in New York City! Katelyn Purvis was one of five local dancers from Miss Marion's School of Dance in Spartanburg selected to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The girls joined a cast of 600 dancers from across the country as part of the "Spirit of America" act.
Purvis, a senior at Byrnes, has been dancing for 13 years. The Thanksgiving Day performance, a jazz routine that included many "Rockette-style" moves, required months of practice and several days of dress rehearsals prior to the main event. However, despite all the hard work, the senior described the experience as the "thrill of a lifetime".
Purvis is also active in the French Club, Girls Rising, and the Byrnes Singers.
