Orchestra Students To Perform With Renowned Musician, Mark Wood

Mark Wood working with student Students in District Five's orchestra program will have a "once in a lifetime" opportunity this week, to play alongside a world renowned musician and composer.  International recording artist and Emmy award winning composer, Mark Wood, an original member of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra is bringing his widely recognized music education program to District Five.

The unique program, called "Electrify Your Strings". allows students to train under Wood's direction, transforming the student musicians into a full-fledged rock orchestra!  Over the course of several days, students from Beech Springs Intermediate School, Berry Shoals Intermediate School, D.R. Hill Middle School, Florence Chapel Middle School, Byrnes Freshman Academy and Byrnes High School, will all get the chance to work with Wood, learning skills like improvisation, composition, and personal expression.  Joining Wood will be Greg Byers, a jazz cellist, who has performed on BBC Two and Univision, been a featured artist/clinician at New Directions Cello Festival and Creative Strings Workshop.

Then, on Friday, September 28, Wood will be performing with the combined middle and high school orchestra students on his handcrafted 7-string fretted electric Viper violin, as part of the 2018-19 "Electrify Your Strings" Discovery Tour.  The concern will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the District Five Fine Arts Center.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.
