2022-23 Summer Reading
Spartanburg District 5 schools require summer reading for all honors English classes. Rising 8th grade English 1 Honors students are expected to read one book over the summer.
Rising 8th Grade Honors English 1 Students
All English 1 Honors students must read the book of his/her choice by the first day of school and take a written test during the first week of the course. In addition to a written test, students must also be prepared for in-depth group discussion and analysis that leads to a culminating performance task.

Congratulations to Margaret Duncan, Isabella Marin and Peyton Stone for being accepted into Scholars Academy at USC Upstate! This program is highly competitive and gives students the opportunity to take college courses and advanced high school classes over four years!

Outstanding Performance Award
Congratulations to Jennifer Diehn, Orchestra Director and our 7th and 8th grade orchestra students for earning the South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA) Outstanding Performance Award - Gold for the 2021-22 school year.
The Outstanding Performance Award (OPA) is the highest achievement for orchestra programs in the state of South Carolina. To earn this award, our school's orchestra program demonstrated a high level of proficiency in all areas of scholastic musicianship. Points were earned and accumulated through success in Region & All-State Orchestra, Concert Performance Assessment, and Solo & Ensemble.

Holocaust Educator of Excellence Award
Congratulations to Language Arts teacher Ashley Scruggs! She has been awarded the South Carolina Council on the Holocaust Educator of Excellence Award. She is the only middle school teacher recognized in the state for this honor. For this recognition, she will receive a $500 check, a framed certificate, and an additional $500 grant to be used toward classroom resources.
