    Fall/Winter2013

    DearDuncan Wildcat Family,

Wehave had a fantastic first nine weeks of school and the second nine weeks iswell under way.  Our first annual FamilyArt Night had a fantastic turn out. During American Education Week, ParentLunches were well attended, and our book fair was a huge success.  A special “thank you” for all those who joinedus.  Please know that you never have towait for a special occasion to have lunch with your child or volunteer.  You are welcome any time. Thank you for yourcontinued support of our teachers and our school family!

Ourschool has recently purchased a computerized system which should make it moreconvenient for you to sign in when you come to school to visit or volunteer.  All you will need to bring with you is yourdriver’s license, once we fully switch over to this system.   The system has the capability of signingstudents in/out as well.  Quite a few ofthe schools in our district currently have this system in place so you mayalready be familiar with the process.  Thissystem is also an added measure for school safety.  Thank you for your patience with us as weimplement this new procedure.

StateSchool Report Cards were released by the State Department of Education.  Our Growth Rating (individual student testscores in Grades 3 and 4 from Spring 2012 to Spring 2013) was “Excellent” whichmeans that we substantially exceed the standards for progress toward the2020 SC Performance Vision.  Our AbsoluteRating (Spring 2013 test scores) was “Average” which means that we meet thestandards for progress toward the 2020 SC Performance Vision.  The ratings are:  At-Risk, Below Average, Average, Good, andExcellent. For more details, check out the state department’s website at http://ed.sc.gov/data/report-cards/2012/index.cfm.  This link will also be on our school’swebsite.

Our school was rated 93.7 or A by the FederalAccountability Rating System.  Thisindicates that per the federal accountability rating system that our school’sperformance substantially exceeds the state expectations. In addition,we have been designated as a “Title I Reward School for Performance”.  This means that we are among the highestperforming Title I schools in the Spring of 2013. So please join us incelebrating our achievements while continuing to look ahead for theopportunities to continue to grow and excel as a learning community!

Our car lines at dismissal are moving so smoothly.Thank you so much! In January when we begin the second semester, our teacherswill change supervisory duties.  Thankyou for your continued cooperation and support of our staff members as theytransition to new supervisory positions.
