Preparing Future Teachers

The Valkyrie Middle College (VMC), a partnership between Spartanburg School District Five and Converse University, is a two-year, co-ed program that provides high achieving James F. Byrnes High School students who wish to pursue a career in teacher education, with the opportunity to earn up to 39 hours of transferable college credit (30 taken at Converse University campus) – free of cost to the student. Students who successfully complete the two-year program will be eligible for priority acceptance into Converse University’s teacher education program, which is now open to both male and female students. Successful students will also receive priority consideration for teaching jobs with District Five after graduating with teacher certification.
