COVID-19 Guidelines For 2022-23 School Year

As we begin the 2022-23 school year, the safety of our students and staff remains our very top priority in Spartanburg District Five Schools.  With that safety in mind, District Five will follow the guidelines established by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) for COVID-19 in K-12 schools.

What You Need To Know

In District Five, we know students learn and have the best educational experience possible when they are healthy.  Whether it's COVID-19 or any other illness, our District's health services team asks that parents and families remember this when deciding whether or not to send your child to school.  If your child is sick, please keep them at home.

Positive COVID-19 Cases

• If a student and/or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, it should be reported directly to the school or school nurse.
• Positive cases must isolate for 5 days, and can return on day 6 if symptoms have improved, and they are masked through day 10
• If an individual cannot mask through day 10, they are strongly encouraged to isolate for the entire 10-day duration
• District Five will not be contact tracing in its schools, and all quarantining of school or household close contacts has been suspended

Symptomatic Exclusions

• Symptomatic students will be sent home and encouraged to test for COVID-19
• If a negative test is received, or physician clearance documentation is provided, they may return once symptoms have improved

Monitoring for Outbreak

• DHEC now requires school districts to report when a cohort (class, group or team) of more than 5 individuals (students and/or staff) has 20% or more positive cases within 72 hours
• In this event, our regional DHEC office will be contacted and will provide additional guidance
