    State Funded Scholarships 

    South Carolina Hope Scholarship

    This is a state-awarded scholarship valued at $2,800 for the first year only. Students that have a final minimum 3.0 GPA but do not qualify for the LIFE are eligible to receive this scholarship. Students who receive the SC HOPE and earn a 3.0 at the end of the first year of college may receive the LIFE Scholarship for the second year of college. No application is necessary for this scholarship. Eligibility is based on your final transcript.

    South Carolina Life Scholarship

    This is a state-awarded scholarship valued at $5000 per year. Students must meet two of the three requirements (1) your final, cumulative grade point average must be a minimum 3.0; (2) minimum 1100 SAT (combined critical reading and math sections) or 24 ACT; or (3) rank in the top 30% of your class at graduation. For a two year college students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (the test score and class rank requirements are waived.) No application is necessary for this scholarship. Eligibility is based on your final transcript.

    South Carolina Palmetto Fellows Scholarship

    This is a state-awarded scholarship valued at $6700 per year. Students may be eligible to apply if they meet the following three criteria: 1200 SAT/27 ACT, 3.5 GPA, top 6% of the class at the end of the sophomore, junior, or senior year; or meet the following two criteria 1400 SAT/32 ACT and 4.0 GPA at end of the junior or senior year. Students that meet the criteria will be notified by guidance to complete an application. More information about these state scholarships is available online at www.che.sc.gov

    South Carolina Lottery Tuition Assistance

    This state awarded money varies each year dependent on the South Carolina Lottery Revenue. Students must be enrolled in at least six credit hours a semester and advancing toward a degree at one of the state’s two-year institutions. Students must complete the FAFSA as soon after October 1 as possible. Awards are handled by the college financial aid office.

    BMW Scholars Program

    The BMW Scholars Program allows students to attend class fulltime at local community colleges while working part time at BMW. Students are able to attend Spartanburg Community College, Greenville Technical College or Tri-County Technical College and gain experience. BMW will pay student’s tuition and books.     South Carolina Teaching Fellows Program

    This program offers SC residents up to $24,000 over four years to become a SC educator. Awards are based on academic achievement, references, community and school involvement, and interview and a writing assessment. Students must attend one of the eleven Teaching Fellow Institutions: Anderson University, Charleston Southern University, Clemson University, College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina University, Francis Marion University, Lander University, USC Aiken, USC Columbia, USC Upstate or Winthrop University.     SC Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship

    SC seniors who have a 2.75 GPA on 4.0 scale and are interested in golf can apply for this scholarship. Students must be planning to attend a 4-year accredited college or university in SC. Apply online at www.scholarshipprograms.org DEADLINE January 8

    Kitty Moss Fairey Educational Fund Scholarship 

    SC seniors who have a 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale and demonstrate financial need can apply for this scholarship. Students must be planning to attend an accredited college or university in SC. Apply online at www.csascholars.org/kmfr DEADLINE December 2

    John F Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay

    American Legion National High School Oratorical Scholarship

    A prepared oration of 8 to 10 minutes must be given on some phase of the Constitution of the United States and will emphasize the attendant duties and obligations of a citizen to our government. For more information, visit: www.scarolinalegion.org (under Programs link) Deadline January 21

    Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Scholarships

    James O. Thomason Scholarship

    This scholarship applies to students who wish to further their education in print or photo journalism, advertising, public relations or mass communications.     Watson-Brown Scholarship 

    The Watson-Brown Foundation will award 250 renewable $5000 need and merit based scholarships for students attending a four- year accredited, non-profit institution. Online scholarship applications are available at  www.watson-brown.org/scholarship/. DEADLINE February 15

    South Carolina Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities Journalism Scholarship Contest

    Links and Denny’s Educational Scholarship

    $1000 to $3000 educational scholarship offered to a African American female senior. Student must be planning to enroll at a 4 year college and have a 3.0 GPA and test scores. Applications available in guidance. Deadline December 31.

    MLK Jr. Unity Celebration Scholarship

    This scholarship is an opportunity to provide financial support to current high school seniors in Spartanburg County. Two $1000 scholarships will be provided to students who have a 2.5 GPA and participation and leadership in school activities.     MLK-Carlo & Nika White Foundation Scholarship ($2,500)

    MLK-Clemson Scholarship ($16,000 - $4,000 per year):

    MLK-Furman Dreamer Scholarship ($144,000 - $35,000 per year): 

    Male or female high school senior from an accredited public or private high school in the Upstate of SC • Admitted to Furman as an incoming freshman and full-time attendance in the Fall by November 1 • Minimum of a 3.25 cumulative GPA • Demonstrated leadership and service both in school and in the community • Commitment to continuing leadership and community service while enrolled at Furman • Must be available to attend the MLK Dreams in Action Program on January 18 at 9:00 a.m., at the Commerce Club, Downtown Greenville in order to accept scholarship award.     MLK-Greenville Technical College Scholarship ($1,500): 

    Male or female high school senior from Upstate, SC attending college in Summer or Fall  • Cumulative GPA of 2.7 or greater • Demonstrated leadership and community service • Acceptance and attendance to Greenville Technical College • Must be available to attend the MLK Diversity Banquet on January 18 at 9:00 a.m., at the Commerce Club, Downtown Greenville in order to accept scholarship award.     MLK-Michelin North America CSK Dreamer Scholarship ($5,000): 

    Female high school senior from Upstate, SC attending college in Fall • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater • Demonstrated leadership and community service • Acceptance and full-time attendance at an accredited four-year institution of higher education for the Fall.  Applicant should pursue a Baccalaureate degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics)  discipline of choice (includes degrees in Biological Sciences [except medicine and other clinical fields]; Physical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Computer and Information Sciences, Geosciences, Engineering and Technology) • Must be available to attend the MLK Dreams in Action Program on January 18 at 9:00 a.m., at the Commerce Club, Downtown Greenville in order to accept scholarship award.     Silver Pen Writing Competition-Summit Hills

    Summit Hills retirement community will provide a one-time scholarship to deserving high school senior . First place will receive $2,500; second place will receive $750; and third place will $500.  Students should write a 1000 word essay about an accomplishment that sparked growth and understanding.     Silver Pen Writing Competition- Cascades Verdae

    Cascades Verdae retirement community will provide a one-time scholarship to deserving high school seniors. First place will receive $2,500; second place will receive $750; and third place will receive $500. The Essay topic is: Compare and contrast the influence of technology in your life vs the role of human interaction and mentoring in your life.
