    Band

There are currently 180 students enrolled in the Band Program at Berry Shoals.  The band classes are directed by Liam Montiel and Lori Hurst.  Presently, students are allowed to begin band in either the fifth or the sixth grade (students willing to catch up with private lessons).  Classes meet five times a week for forty minutes each class period.

The fifth grade band gives two public concerts, both in the winter and in the spring.  Parents have the opportunity to visit the classroom on several occasions to observe their child’s progress. Many students become involved in the district’s private lesson program during this grade.

The sixth grade band performs a Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert. Many of the private lessons students audition for Region and All-State Bands and perform at Solo and Ensemble Festival.  Students in the sixth grade may audition for the Berry Shoals Intermediate School Honor Band, which is forty of the top student musicians in the sixth grade.

  • Berry Shoals Wind Ensemble Earns High Praise

On the weekend of February 8th, the Berry Shoals Intermediate School Wind Ensemble was invited to perform for the SCEMA In-Service Convention in Charleston, SC. Our wind ensemble was one of five invitees which also included:

Charleston School of the Arts Wind Ensemble & Jazz Band
Spring Valley High School Symphonic Band
Take 2 Brass Quintet of USC-Aiken
       Winthrop University Wind Symphony

This was a very high honor for Berry Shoals, Mr. Valentine, and Mr. Wofford. Our students performed amazingly, and were the talk of the convention. We are so proud of the hard work this group put in leading up to their performance, and would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all involved for their achievement.
