    • The Byrnes Theater Department was named South Carolina State Champions in 2009.
    • According to 2007-08 data, �In$ite� reported that District 5 had the highest percentage in the state of current expenditures going toward instruction and instructional support at 76.74%.
    • District Five had 68 eighth grade students qualify for Junior Scholars in 2009-2010.
    • District Five Schools donated a total of $29,032.49 to the United Way in 2009.
    • District Five Schools was first in the state in Relay for Life fundraising in 2009�donating in excess of $103,000.
    • Byrnes High School raised $26,372 for Relay for Life in 2010 and was the number one school in South Carolina in fundraising for Relay for Life.
    • The USDA, along with the SC Department of Education and the SC Department of Agriculture named Duncan Elementary School �A Healthy Snacks� grant recipient. This federal grant provided fresh fruits and vegetables to students and to teach them the value of eating healthy foods.
    • Ten-time State Champion Byrnes High Rebel Regiment was awarded the �South Carolina Band Directors Association Outstanding Performance Award 2009-2010�. This is the Highest Award given by SCBDA for a total Band Program and was Byrnes' 24th time to receive the award.
    • Nine-time State Championship Football Team won the Region II-4A Championship and the 4A Upper State Title in 2009.

     

    • In 1990 District Five Schools consisted of 7 schools compared to the 12 schools we have today.
    • Byrnes High School senior Heather Sprague earned the National AP� Scholar Award for 2009-2010.
    • In the past 6 years District Five Schools has increased enrollment by 1,299 students.
    • The Byrnes High Varsity Baseball Team captured the 2010 4A Upper State Championship.
    • Tiffanie Adair was named Co-Female Athlete of the Year in Region II 4A.
    • Marcus Lattimore was selected Male Athlete of the Year in Region II 4A.
    • Coach Mike Srock was appointed to the NASE (National Association of Speed and Explosion) Certification Board and NASE Board of Directors. Srock is the only high school coach on the Board of Directors.
    • The Byrnes High/Byrnes Freshman Academy yearbook, �Souvenirs�, received the SC Scholastic Press Association Conference Best Yearbook in South Carolina Award for 2009.
    • Byrnes High valedictorian Caleb Creel was named a Com mended Scholar in the National Merit Scholarship Program for his outstanding performance on the qualifying 2008 PSAT.
    • The ACT is a national college admission and placement examination. Byrnes High School students who took the ACT in 2009 scored the highest in Spartanburg County with a score of 21.3.
    • 10 students from District Five were selected to attend the Spartanburg County Scholars Academy.
    • Byrnes High Winterguard placed 13th in the WGI World Championships during the 2009-2010 season.
    • The Byrnes High School Technology Student Association received the First Place Overall Award from The SC Technology Association for the fifth consecutive year.
     
     
    • Byrnes High School AFJROTC Department received top rating �Exceeds Standards� during the 2009 �2010 school year.
    • D5 had 77.5% of its students meet the standard or above on Reading PASS testing compared to 73.6% of the state of SC.
    • District Five dedicated its new Fine Arts Center in May, 2010.
    • The 2010 Graduating Class of Byrnes High School received scholarships valued at over $6.5 million dollars.
    • Seventeen Byrnes High School senior athletes received $1.7 million in athletic scholarships in 2010.
    • District Five Teacher of the Year: Marisa Neumann, 4th grade teacher at Reidville Elementary.
    • District Five Support Employee of the Year: Lisa Springer, Guidance clerk at Byrnes High School.
    • Two Byrnes High Seniors, Caleb Creel and Sarah DeVos, received $1,000 scholarships from the National Beta Club.
    • District Five had the highest PASS scores in Spartanburg county in Grade 3 Science and Grades 5 and 6 in Social Studies.
    • Byrnes High Volleyball team finished the 2010 season ranked #5 in South Carolina. The 2009 Team won the SC State AAAA Championship.
    • Byrnes Girls Golf Team finished their 2009 season in the Top Ten at the 4A State Championships for the second consecutive year.
