Welcome to Byrnes High School for the 20010-2011 school year.  This is  my 9th year as an educator and I’m looking forward to learning, sharing and growing along with your child.

I expect each student to put forth their very best effort in keeping up with their daily assignments. I usually arrive at school around 7:30 and  I am willing to stay late for anyone needing extra help.

Classroom activities will begin with a prompt and then include a variety of the following: notetaking, lectures, readings, journal writing, individual and cooperative activities and assignments, class discussions, quizzes, tests, and/or technology assignments.

Global Studies II Standards/ Objectives:

Student should be able to discuss the following upon the completion of the course:

• Impact of interaction among major societies (trade, systems of international exchange, war and diplomacy).
• The relationship of change and continuity across the world history periods covered in this course.
•  Impact of technology and demography on people and the environment (population growth and decline, disease, manufacturing, migrations, agriculture, weaponry).
• Systems of social structure and gender structure (comparing major features within and among societies and assessing change).
• Cultural and intellectual developments and interactions among and within societies.
• Changes in functions and structures of states and attitudes toward states and political identities (political culture), including the emergence of the nation-state (types of political organization).
